‘Major’ Long Beach drug supplier convicted
Rodney Coward was among five nabbed in local drug trafficking ring
A “major heroin supplier” from Long Beach who was arrested last year for his role in a drug-trafficking ring was convicted Wednesday on felony drug charges, Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas said.
Rodney Coward, 44, was arrested with four other men — including one with ties to an alleged Latin Kings gang member — last year as part of a 14-month investigation dubbed “Operation Beech Sweep,” a joint effort with the D.A.’s office and Nassau County, Freeport and Long Beach police departments into a drug ring that operated primarily along Beech Street in Long Beach for several years selling heroin, crack-cocaine, cocaine, Oxycodone pills and Xanax “to dozens of local users.” --More--
Long Beach city employee among 17 nabbed in drug bust
Alleged Latin Kings members 'most prolific narcotics traffickers' in Long Beach
A Long Beach city employee was among those charged in a large-scale drug raid on Thursday, following a two-year investigation into narcotics trafficking in Long Beach and other South Shore communities that led to the arrests of 17 alleged gang members and associates.
Island Park resident Arthur Collins, 38, a sewer maintenance supervisor and city employee since September 2005, was among those arrested in a conspiracy to traffic in more than 50 kilograms of cocaine, five kilograms of crack cocaine, two kilograms of molly and 500 pounds of marijuana.
Authorities said the defendants are members or associates of the Latin Kings street gang. Six of the suspects are Long Beach residents, while others are from South Shore communities such as Baldwin, Oceanside and Hempstead. The four-count indictment was unsealed in U.S. District Court on Thursday following an investigation that involved the Long Beach Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Drug Enforcement Administration, who worked together to identify “the most prolific narcotics traffickers in the Long Beach area.”
